Shey Phoksundo Lake Trek "All things are ready,if our mind be so"-William Shakespeare

Dolpo is protected by Shey-Phoksundo National Park. It lies to the north of the Dhaulagiri Range bordering the Tibetan Plateau. Here one can find a well-preserved eco-system of plants and wildlife. Dolpo is the homeland of the Spotted Leopard, Blue Sheep, wolves, and many other varieties of flora and fauna. The trekking in upper Dolpo is designed for those who are exceptionally fit and prepared to face the full challenge of the Himalayan wilderness. The view of Kanijiroba peak, Phoksundo Lake, and the Dhaulagiri massif is one of the most rewarding moments of this trek. The Oscar award nominated movie entitled Caravan was produced in the Dolpo region with the blend of lifestyle, unique culture and enchanting natural beauty of the area. Dolpo was open to the outsiders only after 1990 AD, therefore, tourists are required to obtain special permit for the government registered company.

We begin our trekking to Dolpo from Juphal, where we reach by direct flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and catch another place to Juphal and rest a night there. Next day, we head to Dunai and then to Ankhe, Renji and Phoksundo Lake (3600m), we take rest along the lake and explore the area and we head to Mandala camp (4570m) and then Shey Gumba, crossing the Saldang passes (5010m). subsequently, we head to Namgung, Yangar Gumba, muse Gaun, Sime Gaun crossing Lang la pass (5002m) and then we head to Tinja, Kheng and chakra crossing the chakra pass and we proceed our trek to yak Kharka, Sangdang phedi (5110m) crossing Sangdang pass (5490m) and then we reach Sanda, subsequently, we proceed our trek to Phale Gaun and we finally reach at Jomsom (2710m), where we catch our airstrip to Pokhara and then we return to Kathmandu either by bus or by plane.

Phoksundo Lake Trek offers golden opportunity to be familiar with the special aspect of their culture, ancient and rather animistic rites of Bon - the old pre Buddhist premitive religion of Tibet are still alive, with their partly shamanistic ceremonies.

People in Dolpo are found in their own religious costumes and treading along with yaks. There is no any effect of modernism yet and the place is found unspoiled, hidden heaven. Dolpa is one of the last sanctuaries of medicinal plants in western Nepal. 407 species of medicinal plants grow in Dolpa and are used by Aamchis (traditional healer). We can see the famous blue sheep (Bharal) and snow grouse in the trek Lower Dolpo. Another destination in Lower Dolpo Trek is the Phoksundo Lake passing through eroded landscape and waterfall from Ringmo. https://www.immigration.gov.np/page/trekking-route
