Kanchenjunga Circuit Treks

We did 22-days trek at Kanchenjunga circuit at the end of November/beginning of December 2019 with Rajan and his porter Ram. We had already known Rajan from our previous Manaslu circuit therefore there were no doubts when we hired him for this trip again. After two days in jeep we finally got to Taplejung where we started our trek. From the beginning we walked through the jungle but we could already see some 7000+ peaks on day 3. Later we hiked up the river to the village Ghunsa where we enjoyed true nepali hospitality at very lovely family. Next goal was Kanchenjunga North BC. We had an extra rest day at Kambachen so we did a day-trip to Jannu BC where we could admire mount Jannu from close. We spent a freezing night in Lhonak at -20°C and next morning we saw Kanchenjunga covered in clouds from North BC. Back in Ghunsa we had another rest day and the following days we climbed Sele Le pass and Miring La pass. Those days were our best days we spent in Himalaya. The views were just breathtaking. After that we descended to Chiram where we spent two nights. From Chiram we started our day-trip to Oktang viewpoint where we could finally see Kanchenjunga with its all five peaks.

Next days we walked down through the jungle. It was nice change after the days spent in higher altitude and it was much warmer as well. After that we took a jeep to Illam. It was about 10 hours drive but started early so we had enough time to go for a walk into tea gardens. The whole trip was well organized. Even though it was almost after season Rajan always knew the owners of all tea houses and let them know in advance so they knew we are coming and reopened their lodges just for us again. Ram and Rajan carried some fresh fruit, heaps of cookies and a big thermo so we had a feeling of luxury during out tea breaks. 22 days ran away quickly and we are looking forward to our next visit in Nepal Gorkha Adventure with Rajan!
